Thinking Blog award...

Hope tagged me as a Thinking Blogger, part of an ad hoc grouping of bloggers and blogs that don't surface on the standard search engines and which (as I read it) are reflective and stimulate reflection in turn. It's heady praise, and I am grateful, as well as rather humbled (I have live up to that???).

And there's no free lunch--the deal is that if (and only if) we're tagged, we tag in turn and link to the site that originated this idea. You can get the image there, too. So here are my tags and a bit of why. Hope is tagged turnabout already.

a) The Steve man in Ohio (as well as Hope), has lived in places of the heart that I can barely imagine, holds onto faith sometimes with gritted teeth, but with humour and heart. I have learned so much from them both.

b) Reading Rachel, the Velveteen Rabbi, feels sometimes like trying to learn Spanish by listening to The Macarena. Hers is a dense, rich, challenging blog that adds the dimension of thriving, progressive Judaism to my awareness. I have learned so much from her and from Jews I have met electronically and personally, that "gratitude" is such a chintzy term for the spiritual debt I owe. Avielah Barclay is another.

c) Zhoen is the sand in the gears of my blogosphere, the one who invariably leaves me realizing that much as I might wish it, the world doesn't run perfectly smoothly and probably shouldn't, for very good reasons. She's the one who reminds me that in dissonance, truth may come dancing out. And she has a nice cat...

d) Marja-Leena (and don't even think of pronouncing that "j" as anything other than a "y"...) is a splendid visual artist in Lotusland (that's a Canadian in-joke), whose works and thoughts invariable make me realize that so many people have much bigger windows on reality than I have.

e)And now a blog/not-blog: Tim Lowly is a Chicago-area visual artist married to a United Methodist minister. Their daughter is profoundly developmentally handicapped. With her as subject, Tim Lowly has created art that stops you in your tracks and flings opens the doors of universal reality. He is also the brilliant, edgy, Janus-eyed curator of a splendid online gallery featuring wonderful artists. A Thinking Blog need not have words...

I guess I have to accept for Moby's sake. I didn't know about inviting on, what am I expected to do?

My gritty thanks.

Follow the trail to the original site, the link for which you'll find in second paragraph of my posting--add this to the posting of your own on this subject. Then tag five more blogs you feel merit this award.

You were so awarded by me in a way to honour your self-described eccentricity, going against the grain, your grittiness. Without you, I'd be drowning in a sea of Christians and Jews here... :)

Peter, what a surprise and such an honour, thank you! Now I've got my homework to do, to narrow down five choices from a long list of worthy bloggers out there, minus you!

I am honored and blessed, br'er Peter. Getting nominated by you for Thinking Blogger award is like having Julia Childs asking me to throw her a dinner party.

It's almost 2 AM ET here, so I'm going to shuffle off to bed tonight, and get on with the tagging and linking and whatnot later on Sunday.

Thank you for this, Peter -- I appreciate it a great deal. I will give some thought to who to tag in turn... :-)
