Driving Miss Emmy

6 AM is pretty much my normal wakeup, although my routine of morning prayers, breakfast, morning pages etc didn't happen today. At least not in the routine order.

As I stumbled toward the bathroom, I saw that the door was closed, the light on. Em had been up since 5:30, likely on some 6 hours' sleep, to get ready to stand in line to await the opening of the box office at our Auditorium. The group is Alexis on Fire (or is that Alexisonfire?), and they are playing a date here in October. Em was camping out at the Auditorium's Paul Schaeffer Drive (yes, that Paul Schaeffer, folks) with about a hundred other teens hoping to get good seats.

"We gotta get front row, dad!!"

It started to spit rain.

"Ohthankgod I brought an umbrella!"

The sky was purple gray, the traffic all but nonexistent. Anyway, I drove her to the spot at just after 6, dropped her off where she melted into a clutch of other teens, some of whom had obviously pulled the all-nighter with tarps and backpacks and deep grooves beneath their eyes. She was going to have a royal good time kibbitzing and laughing and being the social critter she is. She may get her tickets--she'll get some tickets, at any rate.

I drove home to get ready for my day.

And to think her mom and I were worried about getting her up for school in the fall...

I'm not familiar with that band, which only proves that I'm entirely NOT cool. Are they Canadian?

Yes, they are. I can also safely say that I'm not familiar with 99% of the bands in which Em is interested, though I have heard her speak of this one rather more often than otherwise. In other words, they are high on her list.
