Tugboat return and Monsters from the Id
Joyce is back with us after being away a night and two days. Invited last-minute to go on an excursion by tugboat to Isle Royal south of us in the Lake, she accepted, so we scraped together her overnight effects and off she went, Monday morning at 5 AM (EDT). Got back, I think, about midnight. Her sleeping face looks flushed, I noticed as I got up to get ready for the day: lots of sun, I'll bet. Smooth waters, I hope, too. Today, I hope she sleeps till noon and then we can lunch and she can tell me about it all.
Renee and Em and I had a Forbidden Planet party last night.
They gorged on all kinds of chips and drinks (I was restrained--cholesterol, you know... :( ), and listened to the (extremely) corny 1950s dialogue, the wailing and chirping theremin soundtrack amd watched Anne Francis (now Renee knows what the lines in the Rocky Horror Picture Show opening theme mean...) in her wrinkly "nude" bathing suit tempting a very young Leslie Nielsen. But all things come to an end, and it was time to clean up before Joyce got home.
Yes, we managed it. The house looks, well, cleaner! Neater! Even with Em's detritus from her locker piled in the living room.
The week feels a bit too full and a bit too empty at once.
Happy Solstice, everyone. Happy Juhannus for our Finnish readers (can't remember the exact words).
3 Comments:
Hauskaa Juhannusta to you!
Is the Finnish community there celebrating with a bonfire, birch branches and merriment?
Your Forbidden Planet night sounds great! Em may not have a cell phone, but I bet her friend's parents don't host cool evenings like that.... :)
Ei, Marja-Leena, though I think some individuals had their own Juhannus celebration.
"Androids fighting, Brad and Janet..." Ooops, I mean, yeah, it was fun and campy and a nice night "in".
